    hi everyone i just bought a festiva from my buddy and it drove fine for a few weeks then all the sudden it started making a wierd almost squeaky noise when i was shifting the next day i would put it in 2nd and when i gave it gas it would go but would rev alot more then needed like it was in gear but not fully if im driving down the road at 25 mph in 3rd and i floor it it doesnt speed up at all just revs up and if im going up a hill i barely make it i just rev up when i try to get up the hill im guessing this is bad clutch related and im curious if u guys think that is the problem if so i was told u have to pull the motor and tranny to put a clutch kit in is there truth in that thanks u in advance for any help at all im fairly dumb when it comes to tranny work so any help or tips is appreciated

    Very possible it is the clutch. In my experience, check the clutch cable - it might need to be loosened up a little. Mine was too tight and caused the same symptoms on mine (minus the squeaking)

        That is your clutch slipping, not holding pressure. It is possible its your clutch cable, you will see it on top of the tranny.
        And you dont need to remove both the engine and tranny for a clutch job.....just one or the other, really its your choice on how you want to do it.

          You will see a cable coming out of the firewall toward the front driver's side of the car. It should move about 1/2 inch when you press on the clutch. There is an adjustment nut on the end of the cable right at the clutch fork. This cable should barely be under tension when at rest. I have had a case of where the cable frayed inside the sheath and would hang up and give the symptoms of a worn clutch disc. This cable should move freely. This scenario is more rare than a worn clutch but worth looking at. The Festy tranny, by the way, is so small and light you can almost hold it in one hand.
