  • negative battery cable

I can't remember where all the ground straps were on my car, the only ones (2) I remember was from the - battery terminal to the transmission housing, then one in the passenger side of the head to the inner fender. Anybody know what else that battery lead might have attached to or any other grounds that I'm missing?

There's a little more to my query about battery relocation but to keep it simple I'd like an answer to this first please. thanks guys.

there is a chassis ground right below the battery on the forward member... it then goes from there to the trans. you need that one in place or you'll smoke the small on to the head.

Quick answer from a pro, I Love this site!! Thanks man!

I want to relocate the battery to the rear, do I need to run both positive and negative cables back, or just the positive and ground the negative to the chassis back there, probably one of the seatbelt bolts.

Will a 6gauge wire suffice for the positive wire or should I go bigger?

4 ga for that length of run MIMIMUM. then use a clean chassis ground (seat belt anchor will suffice). make sure you ground your engine to the chassis at SEVERAL points (at least one each for the head, block and trans).

P.S. you can use 2 runs of 6 ga. in place of one 4 ga. run.

          <3 thanks arty!

A friend of mine is getting ready to add a battery to the back of his 99 jeep Cherokee for a winch, can he just run a power off the positive side and ground the second battery in the rear?

Here is a little write up I did when I did it. It has been working great. http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ery-Relocation

As for the 99 cherokee.... is he planning on running wire from the front battery to the rear to have two batteries? Or is he relocating the battery to the rear?
If he plans to have two batteries- typically people will use an isolator allowing the front battery to be for starting and the vehicles electronics then the rear can be dedicated to the winch or any other accessories he wants. Just google two batteries in a car or something along those lines. But yes you can run the positive from the front battery and reground in the rear.
