  • Clunk when turning

I just got my Festiva from the shop, where I spent 2 paychecks getting the clutch and transmission replaced.

Anyway, it runs fine but whenever I turn left at a low speed, say in a parking lot, I hear a rap/clunk coming from the driver's side. It will do this once per left turn.

At higher speeds there's no problem, and the steering is fine. I looked at the wheel and everything appears to be tightly bolted down and the rubber bushings are not rotten or missing.

Before I took the car in to get it fixed, the car didn't make any strange sounds (other than that of a transmission self destructing).

The CV joints are fairly new and the boots are not ripped, so I don't think that is the cause.

Any idea where the noise may be coming from? I don't want to be driving and have the wheel fall off!

    Regards,

Is the steering rack bolts tight ,maybe they loosened them ,and did not re-tighten them . that would make 1 clunk everytime as the rack slides against the bolts.?

It may very well be the cause - I replaced the boots on my 91 and afterwards I had the same intermittent problem. I think I put the CV joints back in incorrectly.

Either way, you've got a shop you can complain to about it.
