  • oil light keeps coming on

When i start the engine the oil light comes on sporadically. Once the engine warms up, it stays off. Any thoughts? I'm thinking i should get the oil pump checked out, and make sure it's not clogged.

If the oil pump was worn the light would come on when the engine is hot. I would replace the sending unit on the back of the block.

It's the switch almost a guarantee.

Well, I'm an idiot. Turns out it was just low on oil.

Little more than low, when don't have enough oil to maintain 5psi of oil pressure. Do you have a major leak somewhere? And how long did you drive it this way?

I think what happened is that my pcv valve seized up and caused the blowby gases to build pressure. That then caused oil to come out from the gaskets and the valve cover breather tube. The reason I say that is that I noticed a significant amount of oil in the air filter housing and now the underside is oily. As far as I can tell I don't have any major leaks. I asked my mechanic about changing the gasket on the oil pan, and he didn't think it was necessary. I'm keeping an eye on the oil level when I fill up and so far it hasn't dropped much if any.
