  • Ebay clutches

Does anyone have any experience with them?

I just acquired a 5 speed for my L and being my 4 speed has the original 140,000 mile clutch I might as well put in a new one while I'm in there.

My options are a "name brand" clutch for $80-100 or an "ebay" clutch for $35-40.

Now I'm cheap so obviously I want to get the cheaper ones but I won't if there is anecdotal evidence that they are junk.

Are there any guinea pigs out there that can share their experience?

What brand do you guys recommend?

Your car only has 140K, so you could easily get another 100k+ out of it. I would just spend $100 for a quality Exedy clutch kit and never have to worry about it again. Plus, if you ever decide to add some HP or swap motors, the Exedy will give you a little extra service factor. Seems to me the extra $60 would be money well spent, considering the labor involved.

I'm not worried about the labor. I also don't know if the body will hold up for another 100k.

<shrug> You're probably right it's just the point of me having the Festiva is to be cheap. Yeah it's got some sentimental value as well. I may end up getting super cheap and just reusing the old clutch haha

When I picked up my Festiva Last year I was broke and still popped for the better clutch from the parts store.

Common sense might dictate that but does anyone have any real experience with these? Our are you just saying this?

An example is my g/fs Corolla. Despite everyone saying not to I put inexpensive "sensen" brand struts on it and they work great and a year later still feel like brand new.

These aren't exactly difficult transmissions to pull...

I myself got a Spec stage 2 but that's because I dont have a stock engine. Spec does offer a stage 1 and is $170. I know spec makes good clutches and I will be updating my build thread when I get it so you can see what it looks like.

                  Re: Ebay clutches

I just ordered a Brute power for $70. I've used them in the past with no issues.

I don't need a stage anything as the point is about economy not power.

I have my Weber carb tweaked to get me about 40mpg. I'm hoping with a five speed I can push closer to 45.. And this is in cold weather!

Im sure theres been a couple members that bought a eBay clutch. I bought off eBay, but it was an Exedy. The only experience I have is from buying the cheap house brand parts from places like O'Reily. Sometimes they are good enough, but usually they last half as long....especially wear items.

Is there such thing as a good ebay clutch? cause i need one for my new project...

I mean xtd, or f1 racing, like a stage 2 or 3???? Id like to hear real reasons and real examples they failed not just because "they are cheap". China makes good stuff, like intercoolers, rads, and even cooling fans, turbo manifolds, and even blow off valves sometimes.
