Here in the UK our cars have to pass an annual test (MOT) for safety and emission items. My KIA Pride only just scraped through due to the handbrake efficiency. The pass rate's 16%, I got 17% on the RH wheel. The footbrake efficiency and balance is fine.
I've had the drum off, it's got new shoes, the mechanism's fine and the self adjuster's doing what it's supposed to.
I think the cable on that side's stretched.
The 'stirrup' that balances the handbrake is mounted on the rear axle by a couple of rubber straps. It seems to me the 'stirrup' sits too far towards the LH wheel, thus limiting the power to the RH side. The straps are bolted to a bracket on the axle. I thought about moving the fittings so they were on the other side of the bracket, but the bolts are welded.
Anyone experienced this problem and found a cure?
A new cable would fix it, but such spares are not available for such an old car ('94) in the UK.
