  • Rear Brake light contact point uneven!

Hi, my Ford Festiva GL 1991 has a brake light issue. One of the bulbs cannot completely contact one of the two contact points because one of them is depressed lower than the other. I have put in a tiny piece of tinfoil over the contact point and this worked fine for a long time. I cannot find a replacement for it. The other day I was pulled over for no right rear brake light and give a warning, and Notice to Correct Violation - all I can do is replace the tin foil and hope it doesn't move when I am inspected! Or is there a McGiver type way to fix this? Can a bit of solder be dripped onto the depressed contact point and work or would it just melt under the current? I need to leave Los Angeles for North Carolina in about ten days so I have to pass this inspection before I go! HELP!!!!

Can you not pull up whatever contact is depressed? I thought there were springs in the bottom of each bulb socket. Is the spring broken or just jammed? Pull a bulb out of another one and check if its springy at the bottom (obviously with the lights shut off). Try ro make the other one the same way. What is causing it to stick?

Post a Want to Buy in the For Sale/Wanted area & buy a new-old tail light. I'm sure many members have some at a reasonable price. List your location, may be a member close to you that can help out.

This might sound dumb, but when you say two 'contact points', are you talking about where the bumps on the side of the bulb lock in place?

Because smart me bought the wrong taillight bulb once and didn't realize it wasn't working for a week. The taillights/reverse lights have two different - but very close - bulbs. Might wanna check dat.

Probably a dumb question, though. :p
