What is on the end of the steel line that goes in the steel line bolted to the block for the cooling system? I'm switching over engines and the new engine had one and it came out easily but there was only an o-ring and some stuff I couldn't make out, my old engines corroded and is still in there.

clean up the old end and install a new O-ring

you can apply some sealer, if you want to
