  • Help....Oil Dipstick Tube Broken

Went to check my oil today, pulled on the dipstick...................and the dipstick and the tube came out together, appears the tube has broke off flush at the block (or is it the oil pump housing??) Any ideas on how to get it out without dropping the oil pan or oil pump ?? Was wondering if I got a slider hammer....like what they use for pulling dents. Maybe put a self-tapping screw in the hammer end that would make a snug fit in the ID of the oil tuibe in the block/pump, screwed it in and hammered it back out ??? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure, but I think it's pressed in like most oil tubes. If you don't want metal in the pan, you'll have to drop the pan and pin punch the rest of it out. Or, install a magnetic drain plug, cross your fingers and try an extractor.
Good news. A replacement oil tube is only $4.48. Bad news. There's Fedex Air shipping from Korea on top of that.
As soon as I get that microfiche, I will be able to tell you if you could buy it here for double the price.
I've noticed that Four Green is starting to put in pictures of some of the more popular parts like upper and lower timing case covers.

The dipstick tube should be held down by one of the screws that holds the upper timing cover on. Maybe the tube's metal strap broke off there, or wasn't secured in the first place? Then the whole tube would be more inclined to come up, but there's no actual breakage. Or are you positive that it's broken off?

Here is a picture of the dipstick tube in the oil pump housing. It appears that it is pressed in. The bracket is just to stabilize it near the top, so that no one will bend it or break it off. It is behind the oil pan seals. Time to drop the pan.

if the plastic part is still visible then what you can do is drill a very small self tapping screw to the tip of the broken off plastic piece. if its all ready fallen down all the way to the abyss of the unknown then the best thing would to drop the oil pan. I think the header and lower pipe needs to come off but its not that hard..
