  • Air conditioning, need advice.

    '92 gl, sport, 5 speed, with a/c

I push the button on the dash for a/c and the light comes on, the blower will blow but I am not getting any power down to the clutch pack. I tested and the clutch pack plug just under the air intake snorkel. There is freon in the system. (thinking of converting from r-12 to r-134a) Any advice, suggestions??? Thanks

Check the relays in the engine bay. There are 3 of them buried on the driver side toward the front - follow the a/c harness down there to find them. Occasionally a relay will fail and may be the cause of your problem.

There's also an inline fuse that is under the dash, to the left of the console and buried back in the dash a ways. That may have blown as well, but if I remember rightly the light on the a/c button won't work if that fuse is bad.

      oh Timmy!

how many fuel injected a/c systems have you had?

fuel injection puts the relays on the passenger side strut tower

no, it's on the drivers side under the windshield washer bottle, unless some kind of aftermarket set-up

There is 3 relays that sit behind the washer fluid tank on the drivers side. Sorry DJ, this time they are right.

So basically one of the three is the a/c relay, correct? As long as all three are getting power, it is safe to say the relay is bad. All ready planning on tearing into it come morning. Thanks Guys...

If there's one thing I know about Festivas, it's the A/C.

All 3 are A/C relays. If they get power yes it's safe to assume one is bad. Easiest way to do that is get a relay out of a junker and swap it in and see if there's an improvement.

Takes 5 minutes tops and you will know instantly if a relay is good or bad.

Probably not, because Aspires were R-134a and Festivas were R-12.

I've never messed about with an Aspire before but because the two refrigerants require different equipment it's a safe bet the Aspire and Festiva don't have compatible A/C systems.
