Thanks for this list, Zcallicutt7! Jerry, where do I find the discount code? Karl, yes I am confused, but understand most of what you wrote.

For control arm/'ball joint assembly, I think that the list supplied by Zcallicutt7 includes these, and I am assuming that he is talking about the upper-priced one. Moog part # k80910 $32.79 EA.

The Rio strut top hat piece that you mention, I know nothing about. If I can't order one new, I may be screwed, as I don't have the ability or time to go to junkyards for parts. Can I order the Rio strut mounts from Rockauto.com? And how do I find this discount code that Team Lightning mentions?

Also confused about Moog stabilizer bar bushings. Don't know what I need them for or where they go ( I would assume, at the stabilizer bar? D'UH!). I am a bit nervous about the ES sway bar front mounts, as I would like to avoid modifications that I could screw up. Bolt-on is best for a novice such as myself in most situations. However, I am willing to learn.

My brakes are okay. 80% rear, about 85% front. Had the front brakes done about 20k ago, but just checked them when rotating tires, still plenty of meat on pads. I also had both of my front CV axles replaced about 20k ago. I had my timing belt replaced just before it hit 60k, and I just replaced my Brake Master Cylinder. I change the oil frequently, and am probably due for another tune-up soon.

The control arms are AT LEAST 4 years old ( when I purchased the car), but they could be much older, maybe even original?! No question, it is time.

    I don't have a manual, so I will hunt for one/both.

Do you think that I should do the springs at the same time as the rest of the suspension work? If so, where can I obtain the FMS sport springs? My springs are 22 years old, so cutting them would probably be a waste.

Your point is taken: "these are excellent cars to learn on!" I have actually learned a lot from buying, driving and selling over 30 cars. I am not a mechanic, but have always pestered my mechanic friends as they would wrench on the latest junk-pile that I would roll into their garage. I have worked alongside them on some projects, and used to help out a friend of mine who raced at the local Speedway. I would much rather start working on my Festiva and learn how to make it happy, than to bring it to a mechanic. I'll probably opt for a blend, and work alongside a mechanic friend of mine who has enough patience to field my questions and allow me to work with him on the suspension. I may have to do it in stages, but that beats dropping it off and picking it up, without learning what the hell happened under there!

Again, I appreciate all the suggestions and help, I plan on ordering some parts this week from Rockauto.com, once I figure out the discount code thing, and make sure that I have a complete parts list. The list provided by Zcallucutt7 might be complete, but you, Karl, have mentioned some other parts: I am not sure whether or not I have a complete list. Plus, as I mentioned, I may want to get the FMS springs and do all of this at the same time. You mentioned that the springs come up from time to time. Any idea where I can get the ones that I need soon, or perhaps now?

P.S. Sorry it took me so long to respond to these posts: I didn't even realize that there was a second page with replies! I think these have been up for several days.

More confusion. Rockauto lists the Moog control arm FRONT LOWER ONLY. should there be a right lower as well? If so, why don't they have it?

More confusion. Rockauto lists the Moog control arm FRONT LOWER ONLY. should there be a right lower as well? If so, why don't they have it? I am guessing that there is only one control arm. Yes, I am a mechanical Dorkus Maximus.

Oreily's, CB40029 $26.99, overnight free ship to 411 May Ave santa cruz

Davesdiscountauto , raybestos professional 5071048B $24.51 and free shipping over $100, promos too

RockAuto Raybestos Pro 5071048B $26.99 Promos.

One part fits both sides. My Oreily's part also included the new bushing that bolts the sway bar to the lower control arm. The 2001 kia rio front strut upper bearing mounts I purchased from Oreily.

Struts are also available at your store overnight, either festiva , rio, Aspire or VW MK II.
As Karl said, The complete assembly from a 2001 rio will get you struts , springs and upper bearing
plates that are called top hats on this site.

Sway bar mounting bushings have many options . Most of my parts are pulled from the Sacramento distribution center.

Welcome and have fun with these cars!

Movin, I checked Raybestos Pro 5071048B on Rock Auto, and they are charging $54.99 per CA. How do you get them for $26.99?

Alright, I ordered rear KYB struts & mounts, MOOG control arms and bushings, from Rock Auto. Thanks for the tip on the discount code. I still need to get the ES sway bar frame bushings, and don't know where to get them. I also don't know the diameter of the stock Festiva sway bar. I'm going to hold off on the front struts and mounts for now. I bet that once I complete the rear strut install and the control arm work, I will be itching to do the front as well, but this gives me some time to read more threads and learn more about options. I'll hunt down a manual too. Thanks all, for all of your suggestions, help and patience.

Fester, I priced the professional grade raybestos on Daves discount auto and copied their part number to search on Rock Auto. When the part came up I did not notice that Rock Auto is selling the service grade part for $26.99. I have been using the Oreily part for $26.99 towing and off roading. They take the abuse well and there limited lifetime warranty makes the deal for me. Rock auto has been tough for me to work with, Oreilys has been easy to work with from warranty to wrong part returns.
Sorry about the confusion. However the part you listed is $26.99. The professional grade part number does not have the B at the end of the number. Be careful ordering from Rock they are a bear to deal with compared to a store in your hometown.

Bummer, because I just placed my order with Rock Auto an hour ago. I went with the MOOG Problem Solver control arms. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope that I don't encounter any issues with my purchase. I also got the KYB struts and strut mounts from Rock Auto. The thing that's keeping me up late now is fretting about obtaining the 7/8" Energy Suspension sway bar-to-frame bushings, and modifying them properly.

You should be fine. My problems are harder to find parts that they say they have and when it gets here it is not the right part. As I fix cars for other people this leaves me in a jam. Mounts, the last part is sitting on my desk, it was supposed to be an ignition switch but it fits a slide actuated car, not our Festies. That is why I did a recent write on repairing our ignition switches.

Movin, another thing I noticed about Rock Auto is, they are sending me three different deliveries: two from Fed Ex, and one from USPS. One Fed Ex delivery is estimated for Tuesday 02 April, the other Fed Ex delivery has no estimated date, and the USPS has no information at all. I will most likely just call Fed Ex and have them hold the packages at their local office for pick-up. I may end up doing the same with USPS. I guess the savings are worth it. Sorry about your situation, sounds kind of frustrating. I went to Autozone this morning for my ES bushings: walked in, asked the guy behind the counter where they were located, had them in my hand within 30 seconds. Autozone just has one of each part on their shelves, I thought that was rather cool. I guess they replace a part every time somebody buys something. That takes some coordinating! I have been impressed with their service in the past.

The reason that there is three different deliveries is that Rock Auto has a lot of different warehouses instead of one giant warehouse. So, one part might be coming from one warehouse and another part from a different warehouse. Possibly from the opposite side of the country. I hope that helps explain it.

It does, thanks Gergorian. I noticed that when looking at the Rock Auto site: "warehouse A, warehouse B," and so on. Jerry (Team Lightning) says that he has never had problems with Rock Auto. Their prices are great.

I should lighten up a little, I am so used to brick and mortar and a guy that picks up returns once a week, I am dragging my feet, kicking and screaming my way into the internet..
