Thanks for this list, Zcallicutt7! Jerry, where do I find the discount code? Karl, yes I am confused, but understand most of what you wrote.
For control arm/'ball joint assembly, I think that the list supplied by Zcallicutt7 includes these, and I am assuming that he is talking about the upper-priced one. Moog part # k80910 $32.79 EA.
The Rio strut top hat piece that you mention, I know nothing about. If I can't order one new, I may be screwed, as I don't have the ability or time to go to junkyards for parts. Can I order the Rio strut mounts from Rockauto.com? And how do I find this discount code that Team Lightning mentions?
Also confused about Moog stabilizer bar bushings. Don't know what I need them for or where they go ( I would assume, at the stabilizer bar? D'UH!). I am a bit nervous about the ES sway bar front mounts, as I would like to avoid modifications that I could screw up. Bolt-on is best for a novice such as myself in most situations. However, I am willing to learn.
My brakes are okay. 80% rear, about 85% front. Had the front brakes done about 20k ago, but just checked them when rotating tires, still plenty of meat on pads. I also had both of my front CV axles replaced about 20k ago. I had my timing belt replaced just before it hit 60k, and I just replaced my Brake Master Cylinder. I change the oil frequently, and am probably due for another tune-up soon.
The control arms are AT LEAST 4 years old ( when I purchased the car), but they could be much older, maybe even original?! No question, it is time.
I don't have a manual, so I will hunt for one/both.
Do you think that I should do the springs at the same time as the rest of the suspension work? If so, where can I obtain the FMS sport springs? My springs are 22 years old, so cutting them would probably be a waste.
Your point is taken: "these are excellent cars to learn on!" I have actually learned a lot from buying, driving and selling over 30 cars. I am not a mechanic, but have always pestered my mechanic friends as they would wrench on the latest junk-pile that I would roll into their garage. I have worked alongside them on some projects, and used to help out a friend of mine who raced at the local Speedway. I would much rather start working on my Festiva and learn how to make it happy, than to bring it to a mechanic. I'll probably opt for a blend, and work alongside a mechanic friend of mine who has enough patience to field my questions and allow me to work with him on the suspension. I may have to do it in stages, but that beats dropping it off and picking it up, without learning what the hell happened under there!
Again, I appreciate all the suggestions and help, I plan on ordering some parts this week from Rockauto.com, once I figure out the discount code thing, and make sure that I have a complete parts list. The list provided by Zcallucutt7 might be complete, but you, Karl, have mentioned some other parts: I am not sure whether or not I have a complete list. Plus, as I mentioned, I may want to get the FMS springs and do all of this at the same time. You mentioned that the springs come up from time to time. Any idea where I can get the ones that I need soon, or perhaps now?
P.S. Sorry it took me so long to respond to these posts: I didn't even realize that there was a second page with replies! I think these have been up for several days.
