  • 1989 Carberated 4 speed Festiva L 1.3L fresh rebuild need help with a couple issues

My son came up to help me pull the B3 out of this 89 festy and I didnt see where he removed all the snakes from the firewall and air cleaner. From pictures I have collected for the last 3 days I think I have them all right accept I am guessing at 2 of them, the one closes to the firewall in the group of 3 under the air cleaner to where it goes on the firewall. Also there is an electronic item screwed to the side of the distributor that I have no Idea where it connects to. This is a project for my step daughters 16th birthday this year and I would like to have it all done for her with a fresh paint job in a few months. The tranny works great other then I need to pull the passenger side axel again and put in a new seal, so while it is drained I might as well pull the other axel now and put a new one on that side too. Went for a test drive today and it seems to run a bit rough at idle but I havent set the timing properly yet, it was just 2 test drives around the block to warm things up and see if there were any other issues. I found that the driver side caliper is not releasing and the wheel got very hot in the 2 trips and it blew some tranny oil on the cat and smoked pretty good the last 1/4 block. I was thinking the brake got hot but it was oil burning on the cat. So if anyone has a carby and has some nice pics of where the ALL the vacuum lines go and can tell me wth that electronic deal is on the distributor I would very much appriciate it. Thanks in adavance

ok, the firewall hoses are color coded, so that should clear it up a bit.

as for the dizzy, you're looking at a capacitor... it connects to the ground side of the coil.

thanks festyboy once again, I dont think that was where it was connected originally because its a bolt on end and the negative side of the coil has 2 wires that clip on already on it and the nut has never been removed on the negative side. if its grounded to the distributor what would it do connecting to the ground of the coil? also the color coded hoses are not all color coded some are just plain black and one has a filter of some sort in it

ok that "filtered" hose goes to the charcoal canister (green and white, right?). i'll have to look at one of my carbies to verify the cap placement.... i should be able to scare up some pix of that side of the carb, give me a few...

yes the can is green and white, that helps, what about the one under the air cleaner in the group of 3 that is closest to the firewall and dont worrie about time lol your the only one that responds to me other then neanderpaul on this site so far. it looks like ive got the line with the filter going onto a T that connects to the blue and brown cans mounted on the firewall

I hate looking at pictures of Medusa. Get rid of all that useless spaghetti. It's not even worth the time to discuss it or figure it out. Switch to an Escort carb. Only one small hose for vacuum advance. Carbs don't need computers.

Does anyone know how far off an E3 carb is from a B3 carb? I am going to buy an E3 gasket and see for myself. Everyone is buying Escort carb adapters. Just do a search.

yeah this thing looks like someone had a nightmare and woke up and wrote it out to give everyone else a nightmare too, and these vehicle emissions control informations stickers seem to get smaller and smaller the older I get. Thanks for the blow ups of the carb, those come in handy. They look like they came from the shop manual
