  • am i missing an alternator bolt?

removed the pivot bolt on the alternator but cant seem to find any other bolt. the book says there is one on the side closest to the front, but i cant see it at all. trying to remove the alt to go get a new one..

13 or 14 mm at the bottom of the alt. You get to the head of the bolt form the back of the alt.

It's a lot easier from under the car, especially when removing the alt. 14mm down below, and 12mm for the top tensioner bolt.

It gets easy after the fourth or fifth time you do.

Yes, from underneath is way to do it at least on Festy with original carb setup. I am spoiled, when I switched to Mazda 1.6L engine, I used the intake that came with it and it was offset more towards drivers side thus opening access to alternator and oil filter from topside. I also switched to Weber carb and eliminated the bushel basket of spaghetti and add ons surrounding carb. Life got lot easier. I hated crawling under the car just to change stupid oil filter.

Right, after you've been under the car and seen where everything it is it's pretty easy to replace and adjust belt tension from above by feel alone. There may be a photo in the Haynes manaul.
