I've rebuilt turbos for other applications. They are all basically alike when it comes to rebuilding. I used a dial indicator to determine bushing wear. Close inspection of the shaft and fins for any damage is paramount. Its gotta spin freely, with out wobble or rubbing. That's about it. You will need some machine work if the bushings are loose and new parts is the shaft or fins are damaged.

Compressor impeller needs reinstalled in the same position to maintain balance....

i have a little problem. one inpeller has a chipped fin but i have another junk turbo. do i use the good impeller on the other shaft or do i use the chipped impeler on the same shaft? how far off balance would it be and how bad would it affect the longevity?

Wouldn't bother fixing up the vj14. Can upgrade for cheaper.

I just want to keep stock piping and everything so I don't really want to upgrade

Im doing all my stuff myself , all the fabrication , the whole engine rebuild , everything.

Except 2 things I leave to pros.

-Honing the Cyl in the block.
                -Turbo rebuilding/balancing.

                Thats all im gonna say.

I rebuilt my MHI Small 16G on my Talon and ran it pretty hard (35psi spike dropping to 30ish to redline) and this turbo shouldn't have lived. Compressor was pretty torn up (almost a half inch of in/out play equals a free "clipped" compressor)

If you have the tools, it's not bad at all.

You probably should not attempt the rebuild if you gotta ask how to get the bearings out....nothing personal it just requires great care to rebuild a turbo and have it
                      live.
