  • Fuel injectors ?

I think i figured out why my morning start ups have a very rough idle and stalls but then starts right up again then after two minutes its perfect. I have been researching the problem and sounds like my fuel injectors are leaking and flooding the the spark plus,(correct me if i am wrong) and also the would make sense what i crappy gas milage and my engine oil smells like gas/oil mix.

So i am going to attempt to replace the injectors or see the condition of the o-ring, but my question is how the do i remove the injectors from the location that they are in ?
    It is a 89' L.

    Thanks

    Re: Fuel injectors ?

    Disconnect battery
    Pull the intake top half.
    Relieve fuel rail pressure.
    Un plug injectors
    Unbolt fuel rail
    Pull out injectors.

    Or somthing close to that...

Now if my injectors are leaking internal does this mean I need new ones or I could just get the kit with new o-rings ?

I'd test fuel pressure 1st. hook a 100 psi or so guage in the rubber hose coming out of the fuel filter and connect it to the fuel rail. look for 40psi KOEO and watch that it does not bleed off fast with the key off. i'd bet it's not your injectors. And Y, if they are bad buy new. O-rings are for either raw fuel leaks or sucking air depending on if it is on top or bottom. Low cranking fuel pressure will cause long crank but ok after initial start-up. Have you looked for false air leaks?

Well I recently just pulled the fuel pump strainer out and put a new one in cause it was dirty and cleaned out the gas tank thinking that is what is cause my car to sputter when it hits a quarter of a tank if gas. That was not the case on my way in to work this morning with more than a half a tank of gas it's starting to sputter again so my other alternative was to clean out the injectors. And also very rough starts in the morning . Just don't know what to do from here's, being that this sputtering came back. I have not looked for false air leaks, I wouldn't even know where to begin. I'm just learning as I go

"False Air" is air that leaks into the intake after the VAF (downstream) and thus is unmetered. Unmetered air will cause lean a condition and if bad enough no start. Look especially at the intake air tube connection to your throttle body. If you see the little slits right next to the clamp, that may be the problem. Reset the intake tube to cover the slits. I am thinking false air because it starts hard and then gets better. The plastic on the duct is dry and brittle but becomes more flexible as the underhood temp rises and the seal improves somewhat.

never heard of a rebuild kit for gas injectors. diesel yes. how will you get it apart? how will you crimp it back together? o-rings no problem, pintles - good luck.
