Well, here's some pictures of the carburetor that I took today. It's a stock carburetor. So far all I've had to replace was a fuel pump, air cleaner temp. sensor, and the pre heater hose. I'm also having a problem with oil in the air cleaner, I think it's due to a coolant temperature switch underneath the intake manifold. I plan on checking it out after I install the cat.

Just break all the catalyst out of the converter. totally unnecessary for operation anyway

holy crap!!!! you have ALOT of load compensation dialed in on that carb....

everything else appears to be intact

and as for the oil in the air cleaner, you're looking at stuck rings resulting in blow by which in turn causes excessive crank case pressure... this pushes oil everywhere (and that includes the air cleaner).

I'm planning doing a tune-up on the carb. I'd appreciate any recommendations based on the pictures. As for the oil, I'm planning on doing a compression test. I bought some Marvel Mystery Oil so I can soak the cylinders with it. That seemed to be what most people recommended for this particular problem.

given the description of the volume of oil being thrown out of the engine, you'll need SEVERAL applications of the MMO or SeaFoam treatments. if these dont quell the blowby, you may need to do what i did with Skippy and pull the pistons and unsieze and/or replace the rings and valve seals. the job takes some time but isn't difficult.
