  • NO START! NEED HELP QUICK!

I know you guys haven't seen me in a few weeks. Life has been CRAZY.

    Anyway:
The last 2 weeks my car when I turn the key sometimes isn't doing anything. If I let off the lutch and then push it back in a couple of times it will start.

Today the car won't start at all. Turn the key and the belts, stereo, lights, everything work, but no click, NOTHING.

HELP! I just need help diagnosing. Is it the starter? I'm replacing the fusible links right now to see if that helps. Let me know ASAP, as I'm using my festy as a DD right now.

    Thanks in advance!

Check your plug wires at the distributor cap. Check battery cables, pull battery and have it checked out at your local parts store, take a tool and tap on the started. Here's a few options

stop.... the car doesn't even crank. read the post before throwing ideas that can confuse the situation.

Just trying to help. Sounds like it's got to be something simple. Mine just did this this past week. Battery was run down. Turned the key and it didn't do anything at all.

                Zcallicutt -

Different situation. A battery that is completely dead would not power the seatbelts, lights, stereo, etc like Gabe said is occuring.

Sorry, Gabe, can't help you. I've never even heard of a "neutral safety switch". I think I understand it's purpose (won't let the car start if the clutch isn't in?) but I have no idea where the switch is at. Let us know what the fix is.

                Edit:

the only other thing is what i always recommend checking and it is the main power relay by the battery but when mine went bad it still got spark so i am stumped unless that relay can mess with that also.

i always recommend checking this and i have an extra so let me know you can bypass easy just remove main fuse at dash and get 2 wires. unplug relay and with 2 wires tie one from fat wire to other fat wire and the other tie small wire to other small wire.

correct!!! its there to make sure the trans is disengauged while starting so that the car doesn't move unexpectedly on it's own.

Rhode, that main relay won't cut out the starter.... which is what the issue is, (no crank).

Gabe, it can also be called the park/neutral switch (in automatics) and clutch safety switch (manuals) in either case, what you're looking for is on the pedal assembly behind the clutch pedal. all it does is inturrupt the signal from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid and it tends to get dirty over time... contact cleaner may be a simple solution for this. to test that it's the switch at the dpedal and not at the key, locate the switch as described above, disconnect the plug from it and jump the 2 wires. then MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN NEUTRAL before turning the key to start. if the car cranks: the pedal switch is bad. If the car does NOT crank, verify battery voltage at the plug and report back....
