  • Attention Carbie Owners!!!

a fellow festy lover local to me has been able to somehow coerce the R&D guy from the California company that does all the 32/36 conversion adapter plates for nearly every small japanese engine (REDLINE) to add the Festiva to their repertoire!!!!

the have my drawings and measurements and will soon have one of my intake manifolds to use as a developement tool.

we'll have a readily accesable solution soon!!!!

personaly, i'm gonna wait till Mr Dickmeyer shows his work up for an improved carbie intake.
    Trees aren't kind to me...

    currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

I really suggest they look at this existing adapter before going to all trouble of making new one: Weber Manifold adapter 99004.673 Its not officially for Festivas but sure looks like it is same. Its officially for the 1981 FWD Mazda GLC Mizer and ONLY that car, only year such vehicle sold in uSA without computer carb. Maybe discontinued as I doubt there are lot 1981 front drive GLC Mizers around anymore. Also I am not sure anybody is all that thrilled making adapters for engines that had only computer control carbs. Its not technically legal to retrofit such a vehicle to non-computer carb for use on public hiways. It would have to be an "offroad" use only product.

              ^ pix?

Banana, depending on your location it isn't nessisarily illegal to swap carbs... for instance here in PA, if i keep the car under 5000 mi a year, i can do anything i want to it without fear of failing any emissions test (milage exemption).

you'll need some kind of image hosting site account (i use photobucket, it's free) from there you upload your pix from your 'puter and photobucket resizes them for you for use on the web. you then copy the [img] [ /img] link provided with each picture and paste it in the reply box on this site. your pix will automaticly link to here and show up in the thread.

It'll give you links to use. Use the "IMG" one. Click it and it should copy it to the clipboard. Then paste into the post.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

But if you are a company that manufactures outside PA (for example) and sells outside of PA (for example) then you are butting heads with Federal law which supersedes state law if state law is less strict. And if you sell in California, then their laws too which are always more strict than anywhere else. Hard to ignore California as its a BIG market for car parts.

Very unlikely any individual is going to be prosecuted under Federal law for doing something to his own car, but they will go after shops that make modifications and they will go after manufacturers making unapproved alternative parts that affect emissions. There are some exceptions that do get approved for alternative emissions parts, but they have to apply for exemption and approval and show testing, etc all of which isnt worth it for a minor low volume part. As much as we all like Festivas, two years of carb Festivas isnt exactly huge market for aftermarket adapters and the like.

But they can make all the adapters they want for that non-computer 1981 Mazda GLC Mizer FWD model that looks to use the same bolt pattern as the Festiva/323 carb. I'd guess it uses the E5 engine, predecessor to the B engines. If individuals happen to use them on Festivas, then the company that made them isnt responsible. They didnt sell them for that purpose.

By way here is pic under the hood of a 1981 Mazda GLC FWD sedan (most were hatchbacks).

Look familiar? Here is link with more pics etc, http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...zda-glc-sedan/

Does it seem so strange this adapter would fit later Mazda design cars with B engine? Many car makers at least used to not just redesign everything on a whim. Things evolved with interchangebility.
