Q on front wheel bearings...

    I had the tires & wheels investigated. They checked out good.

      When replacing just the rotor, do you need to remove the spacer to get the bearings out to put in the new rotor??

        Usually they will fail within a week.....however there are exceptions to that. I drove over two years on a set with NO spacer from a previous owner who didn't do the job correctly. How they lasted that long is anyone's guess.

          The spacer will be exposed on the hub shaft when you pull the hub and rotor out of the spindle.

            I suffered the same thing! now i'm going to either buy the tools to do it myself or find some Rio knuckles.....

                No, its pressed(the rotor) onto the hub though.Its kind of an archaic design,not meant for normal/quick rotor changes like the Aspire setup.

                  the rotors are captured (bolted to the back side of the hub), once you knock the hub out of the knuckle, rotor replacement is only 4 bolts away (it's not pressed on the hub, but rust may require use of a hammer to knock it loose).

                  I strongly recomend that all the loose rust be knocked/brushed away before seperating the hub and knuckle so as to keep that junk off the bearings. another recomendation is to coat the knuckles with POR-15 before re-assembly. this will make things easier for service later (no heavy rust to deal with).
                  Trees aren't kind to me...

                    Well, I have repaired it.

                    What my "mechanic" friend of mine did is NOT tighten the bearings in the hub good enough. He had the spacers in there but not had tightened them properly. Damaged the racer and bearings.

                    Also the pins were coming out of the calipers and wore the brake pads uneven. I replaced them. Fixed the one bent pin and stuck codder pins in to hold them on.

                    Also he reused the old seals to where I was losing grease.

                    Runs nice now!!
