  • Axle nut washer

Do you have to reinstall the washer behind the axle nut when replacing the axle?

Why would you ask that? It will not last without it, or something like it

Yes. It's there to stop the hub and nut from galling when you torque or remove the nut. And because it was designed for that washer to be in there you might run the risk of bottoming on the threads before you get proper clamping force.

Ok thanks the axle nut just sticks out pretty far now. Don't think it can be properly staked.

Are you talking about the front ? A new cv axle will come with a washer built into the nut or a new washer. Make sure it is torqued properly.

That's what I was talking about, just making sure.
