  • Foam paint rollers make great axle plugs.

When I pulled my 91 engine/tranny I was looking for something to keep the fluid from leaking out and to hold the gears in place. I had some of these small foam paint rollers laying around. It looked like they would fit so I wrapped a plastic shopping bag around them and stuffed them in when I removed the shafts. Worked great.
