  • Rear view mirror removal?

I have an 88 Festy, and it has a diiferent mirror that the 90-93's.
I took a mirror from a 90 hat has a plastic cover you can pull off and access the 2 screws under the cover, but.....

    ..... the 88's have a diiferent setup.
The stalk is all one piece. Looks like some kind of squared ring in the back (towards windshield)
Does anyone know how the 88 mirror comes off? (I did a search and auto manuals are no help)

Does that squared ring have something to do with it?

    As always, thanks in advance!

Did it work. Or are you bandaging your hand from all the glass in your hand?

When you say it has a squared ring in the back, are you saying it has no screws and no plastic cover?

I changed my rear view mirror for one of those. The two screws hold the base on and the mirror just clips in. You have to pry it off slowly and carefully with your hand. I took it one step further and changed my mirror as well. Smart. I did not smack it. Just grab the mirror handle, twist and push slowly.

It was from a Smart car. Check "visors too wide". I had to make the ball 1 mm bigger. I did with epoxy, and now it's good and stiff. It fits in between the lighted Mini Cooper vanity visors. Everything looks stock. Smart.

Actually worked just like in the vid! Came right off. Didnt hit it hard, more of a push/light hit.

                        Better look at 88' mirror

The youtube video is correct, I used two hands though, my left to hold the mirror, and used my right to slap it straight towards the windshield. The mirror will unsnap from the roll pins and rock back towards the windshield on the hook. Very easy, and doesn't take a lot of force.
