Hey guys I'm gonna get my exhaust installed in a week or two but before I do there are a couple things need to be done.
So have to extend my downstream heated oxygen sensor.
The long tubes and flex pipe are pushing the cat back farther.
As well as with the larger heavy metal catalytic converter the o2 wire will need the extension.
So I called up a junkyard and had them send me the wire from the o2 sensor itself-to the male female 4 prong stock connectors and as far past the connectors as he was willing to go so I have the 3 rubber grommets built onto the 4 wires for connecting to the body.
The person before me put a universal o2 sensor on and cut off the stock connectors and hardwired it.
Which is dumb because he should have spliced it into the stock connector. That way it was still easily removeable and replaceable with a stock replacement. And wouldnt have hacked the stock wiring.
Some people just don't think I swear.
Now there are two white wires, 1 black wire, and 1 red wire on the engine side of the connectors. And those are the ones I will need to identify mainly so I can solder them and heat shrink to the correct pins in the connector. That will restore the wiring and the replacement oe o2 sensor should fit in later.
But while I wait for the new 02 sensor in the mail how can I also identify the universal sensors colors and signals? To mate up to the other connector.
its already installed but I'm sure it is wired wrong because after the exhaust shop reconnected it its been throwing a code so I think they may have wired it wrong as well.
Also the ford service manual shows wire colors for the HO2S
As being different that the stock wiring on my aspire.
The new wiring matched my cars wiring colors but the book doesn't.
So it makes things a little more tricky.
My aspire is a 96 and the ford service manual is for 96 and the HO2S wiring and connectors all came off of a 96 so everything should match up.
I understand two wires should be the heater which I'm assuming may be the two white wires but that leaves me with determining ground which I'm guessing is black, and the signal wire I'm assuming is the red one.
But these are guesses so could someone help me verify before I finalize this procedure.
What steps do I need to take to resolve these problems.
