  • New 93 Festiva.. Help Needed!

    Thanks for reading..

    I have a 93 Festiva L..

Couple questions, I need help trying to figure out how to get a few things repaired..

    1. Does anyone know if there is a exact fit 13inch wheel that will bolt to the 93 Festiva without mod? Should I stick with the 12inch? I drive the car 100 miles per day, all Interstate...

    2. The gear shifter has a lot of slop.. I would like to install a short shifter or at least repair the bushings. Anyone know where I can find these parts or what they match up to? I hear a Mazda 121 will fit.

    3. CV Half shaft replacement. Is this a simple job? I have clicking out when turning either direction. Local repair shop wants $360 is this about right?

    Thanks
    David

    Welcome to the festiva world!
    1. Not sure what wheels will work, especially with the lug bolts instead of studs.
    2. This can be found with the search. I know this because i searched it and came up with what i needed.
    3. Cv shafts are not a difficult job, but they can be very stubbern to remove. 360 is about right for a shop to do it, but you will save alot if you go ahead and do it. Again the search is your friend for tips, and tricks to removing them

      1. Geo Metro 13"

      2. what snail said.

      3. If you buy remanufactured ones from the parts store you are looking at about $100 for a pair of cv shafts. Usually $160 or so for a pair of brand new (not rebuilt). As for how simple, again, what snail said. I've done dozens of axles on festivas, and plenty more on other cars. All depends on how stubborn the old ones are coming out of the trans. I've done both sides in an hour, or a couple of days, depending on how creative I've had to get with removing the old ones. $360 doesn't sound too unreasonable at a shop, but if you have some tools, time, experience, and a place to work, you can do it a lot cheaper yourself. Main tool you'll NEED that wouldn't be in a standard socket set is a 29 or 30mm axle nut socket.

Thanks for the bushings info, I have PM'd Bravekozak..

Its been fun driving my "Fest-a-rossa" can't wait it get it 100% little bugger get's 41MPG.. only 75K miles on it.. Old guy I got it from, used it as his tow behind with his motor home... The tow bumper is bigger than the factory bumper.. Thought about painting or getting a full body wrap to make it look like a WWII Fighting Tiger... or getting all the name badges and decals from a ferrari testarossa making it a true Testarossa...

Welcome to the Festiva World David.....

                  Link to fix Shifter.... http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ppiness+solved

Bushings P/N - B001-46-062 (Get at your local Mazda Dealer) - "You'll need (6) bushings total"
Bolt P/N B001-46-133 - You'll need just (1) and a nut for that bolt (from your local hard ware store)

I did this to my 93, I had about 5 inches of play in my shifter (all the bushings were worn out) & after replacing the bushings it only has about 1/2" of play.

Follow that link to the details of a Festy lug pattern, then you can go through and find out every other vehicle that has the same pattern
