  • Halfshaft (CV axle) availability/interchange with Aspire

I was wondering if CV axles from an Aspire interchange with Festiva? I am seeing a couple of Aspires around here in the self serve junkyards but no Festivas. I would like to avoid auto parts store axles since I have had bad experiences in the past with these on other cars.

If they dont interchange, what is the best replacement I can get (with price within reason of course)

I have the same question so I do hope you get an answer. I just bought my second Festiva and it badly needs a right side half shaft. I would like to replace both and the total cost after shipping for me will be almost $250 CAD.

Otherwise I think I'll just end up ordering the EMPI half shafts from rockauto. Which you might want to do as well. For both of them the total is $114.55, the shipping (for me anyways) is $129.74. That's with a 5% coupon code (96788357969687) that you can enter in the how did you hear about us box.

Edit: Just to clarify mine is a 93 auto EFI festy

Answered part of my question... no they do not swap, the half shafts are too long. http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ight=halfshaft

As far as where to get good reman or new ones, anyone able to answer this for me?

        www.rockauto.com

        If it is an automatic.

EMPI Part # 802406 (Front right)
EMPI Part # 802409 (Front left)

        If it is a standard.

EMPI Part # 802411 (Front left)
EMPI Part # 802410 (Front right)

Those are all new. From the research I have done it is not worth going reman. OEM would be best but they are either hard to find or crazy expensive. EMPI seems to be the aftermarket part of choice for cv half shafts for the Festiva.

Depending on where you live the shipping should not be nearly as high. I live in Whitehorse, YT. Way up north in Canada, near Alaska.

wow you are seriously right. Shipping for me north of Denver is less than $10 for one. That beats the reman prices. How the heck do you ship an axle for 10 bucks?

Aspire axles are longer. They don't swap.

Yep took me a few pages of search results but eventually found that. Maybe there could be some post about parts interchange that could be stickied? I would start something like that but so new to these cars I have no idea.

              Like:

              PartA - Aspire identical
PartB - Will not fit (no model interchange)
              Partc - Aspire identical
Partd - Aspire is upgraded but direct bolt in
Parte - part is used in Kia xxx, mazda xxx, all identical.

You also have to pay the full price on the reman and you do not get your money back for the core until you ship the old part back to them in the original box the remans came in.

Either way you are still better off with the new parts than a reman because I have heard some stories about the remans not fitting properly because they have a tendency to be over-machined. So not only is it cheaper to buy the new empi half shafts, it is also a lot less hassle.

Yea. 3 axle seals later, still seeping Atf, exchanged shaft, problem solved.

Although the one I got now clicks a bit when fully cranked to side and a fuzz of torque.

As mentioned, metal can only be cleaned/machined so many times,

Did you happen to use another oem axle from a used festiva or did you go with an aftermarket one?

My right side clicks violently when turning and applying the throttle, I looked at the boot and it's completely detached. It's done for haha but I only bought the car for $150 and it only has 220k kms (136,000 miles). Aside from that it runs flawlessly.

I am going to order the empi axles from rockauto because it's still cheaper than buying even just one axle from any parts stores up here.

The aspire axles are pretty universal and better. The festy axle has very limited travel inner cv's and is only useable in stock festiva's. The Aspire inner cv has more travel, way better. The shaft itself is 8mm longer on the aspire axles which makes it harder for the inner cv to disengage from the trans. If the front wheel base were narrowed for some reason then the aspire axle would be bad. If the engine and trans were shifted to one side such as using the F engine then a mix of aspire and festy axles would make sense.

I like aspire axles in my festy.

And for this purpose was thinking for stock only, not for vehicles with engine/transmission/suspension swaps, I figure if someone can do that kind of work it should probably be in its own type of thread.
