  • Broken Capture nut ,rear shock

I know I've seen this ,but can't find it. The Aspire rear shock that beat me up yesterday is still being non- cooperative, & the captured nut broke loose. Getting a sawzall tomarrow to cut the bolt. My question is ,How do I bolt the new shock on now? I think I read you need to cut something so you can get a new nut on. Where do you cut, & how much?? And, yes my head still hurts, & bleeds alittle. LOL!!!:nightmare:
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

I slipped a smallish chisel in there, knocked the rest of the weld off, and used a longish bolt and nut. Grade 7!

How did you hold the nut as you were tightin' it? What grade nut & bolt did you use? Will the bolt off the Festy shock with a new bolt work okak? Lots of stupid questions, I think I know the answers, just want confermation.

There is a little hole on the bottom, You make it a little bit bigger, just enough to get a wrench in there.

                Grade 7, LOL!

I had to do it as well, John.

Movin, I can't recall perfectly, but I think I was able to get in there without widening the hole. I came from the end, dang that is hard to explain! Maybe that is why I didn't bother posting that up!

Shoot, I work on so many cars, that by the time I work on my own, I don't bother documenting it.

I still have that trailing arm on the aspire I just did the aspire swap off of, I could take a pic...

Okay thanks all. I'll look & see if there is a hole in the bottem. Can't come in from the end it is blocked.

Got it , saw-zalled the bolt, & didn't damage myself. Cut the Aspire rear springs 1 1/2 coils. Now just to finish clean up & paint before install. I need studs for the lug nuts. Got to check brakes & bearings too .
