not a bad price. do you NEED to hone the cylinders? are they cupped at the top? do you want more displacement? what do the pistons require to seal properly after the rebuild?
questions that need asked and answered before making a decision.

This is my first overhaul. I've gotta get a hoist and get the block out. I know ill have a lot more questions before figuring out what to do. What do you mean by cupped?

at the top of the cylinder wall, you might notice a slight bell shape or a lip due to ring wear and piston rock at TDC. a straight edge will show this. if you find that you have a lip or the wall isn't true, a bore out to the next size (+0.5mm) is your next step.

run a cylinder hone in the bores and feel for an edge or lip at the top then go from there

I took it to the machine shop and he said he needs to be bored .30 over to remove the egg shape. Any benefit of doing this? Besides that it is required.

you can upgrade to better pistons. even just getting the oversized pistons in stock form will gain a little compression, but since your going that far, call Matt at DAE and have him make you a set of 11:1 units and attach them to his aluminum rods. wham-bam thank you ma-am, instant HP!

Matt Dickmeyer: Dickmeyer automotive engineering. IIRC it's ~ $100 per piston, but they're made specificaly for you and your build, the rods are in that price range as well, i recomend you purchace them as a set.
