  • Relay locations and wiper stalk wiring

My taillights are out, I don't know if the tracer multifunction switch is to blame, or if a relay is bad, it's been this way for a long time and may have happened when the wiper stalk was installed. Anyway, I swapped the two driver side relays with new used relays, then swapped one out with the one on the passenger side and the taillights still don't work. You can hear the running light relay click on, and the headlights come on even tho the relay doesn't click like the other one.

Trying to trouble shoot this so if anyone has the wiring diagrams for a tracer or festiva multifunction switch please let me know, not really sure where to look next.

The tail lights don't interface with the turn signals or headlights. They're powered by the STOP fuse and have a BOO (brake on/off) switch above the brake pedal. There is no relay to look for, the BOO switch carries the full load. Check for voltage at the switch, then check the ground just below the hatch latch strike plate.

the brake lights work fine, it's just the taillights when you turn the switch forward to get the headlights on. If it makes a difference, when I turn the switch to running light position, no lights come on, but one of the relays does click.

I have the toggle switch in the back hooked up to jump power to the taillight circuit to get the lights on. I don't understand where or why it's not getting power from the original power source.

Both bhazard and myself have messed with plug and play LEDs instead of standard 1157s.. we both noticed something in the Festiva's circuitry blew for the running lights to the bulb (sorry about the brake light/tail light confusion). I don't have a clue what could be wrong, but it is something in the car's harness as I've tested the bulbs in other vehicles to confirm operation.

I'll wager a guess that the LEDs allowed a backflow of voltage to burn out the grounds for the running lights.

        Hope you find some answers

Power goes into the turn/hazard switch from the black/yellow wire (meter fuse) and the white/blue wire (hazard fuse). Make sure your rear grounds are tight. Just because a relay clicks does not mean it's working fine.

aren't the taillights and stoplights grounded through the same ground?!!? They're powered by switched +12v!?

kinda funny you should mention that crazyrog, bhazard is the guy that rigged up my toggle switch, in the dark, in about 3 minutes! No wonder he knew which wire to jump power to!
