93GL Automatic stalls when put into gear

:cry: My 93 Festiva GL - Automatic - was stalling when I would slow down to stop after a long run (30 miles). Then it quit and would not restart. Swapped fuel pump and vane airflow meter with another stiva - not the problem. - Now it will start but stalls when I put it in gear.

I have an 89 Festiva - automatic. Had similar problem...it would start but as soon as tried to drive away it would sputter and cough and then stall-idled no problem. I changed the fuel pump but did no good. It turned out to be the distributor - had a hairline crack in it.

same thing with my 93 manual. If it has been a while might as weel replace the whole thing: plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotors. I have had similar problems when my battery was not charge/when the battery went out. Take it to a car place and they can test the battery and alt. make sure it is not the problem
