  • Festy no workee

Started up the Festiva a few mnutes ago, it ran for about 15 seconds or so, then died. Popped the hood, looked at the Main fuse and the coil wire. All there and connected. Pushed it to my garage, about 30 feet. A few minutes later, it started again like nothing happened--then died about 15 seconds or so later.

Is this a classic symptom of an ignition module on its way out? If not, what other things should I look at?

I doubt the VAF is the issue. Usually when it is, it'll run for like two seconds then shuts off. This is running longer. The second time it happened, I was able to start it right back up again, but just parked it until I get this figgered out. I'll go out and look at it now tho, make sure it looks all hooked up.

EDIT: So solly, still no workee. Let it idle for 60 seconds; it was idling rough. Tried driving it, got about 100 yards, died. MAF(B6) all hooked up as normal.

I'm coming around to thinking it's a sensor of some sort. MAF, TPS, CAS? I have to look at my parts box, might have a spare B6 disty and a Festy coil.

OK, went out and put the fuel pressure gauge on. Idled consistently at 36 PSI for a few minutes. Took gauge off. Later turned motor on, idled @1500 RPM OK, then when it warmed up and dropped to ~1000 RPM, started sputtering. Didn't die. Gonna go buy a fuel filter anyway; the sputtering convinced me. No idea how old this filter is.

While I'm at it, might as well get one for the Aspire. It gets pretty far from home at times.

Edit: Bought from Rock Auto two Wix fuel filters for the Festy, and two for the Aspire. This way I can keep one in each trunk, in my parts/tools boxes. Arriving Friday.

Question: as an emergency measure, could I hook the two filter hoses together with a metal line and not use a filter at all, if it was clogged?

Just had another thought: if the filter does not cure it, maybe it's the sock in the tank.

Thanks Dan, but you have a gen1 B6 head, right? I think the distys are different betwen gen1 and gen2, which is what I have.
