Tom, you have to leave the gauge on untill (and durring) the engine acts up. if pressure doesnt change, suspect the ignition system, otherwise, look for a blockage or pressure drop issue in the fuel system (if the gauge warrents that suspision).

Couldn't wait. Went out today and put the fuel pressure gauge back on. Started it up and idled it until it got up to operating temp. Normally it sat at 36-37 PSI as it warmed up, but sometimes when it dropped from 1500 to 900 RPM the pressure actually rose to 40 PSI. Kept idling it, eventually it stayed at ~36.5. Drove it a couple of blocks, no problem. Maybe a temporary blockage in the filter? What are the symptoms when the fuel pump sock is getting clogged? It sounds to me like you may have picked up a little water in your fuel. This can be do all kinds crazy things. I fueled up a couple weeks ago on our way to the dyno and the tanker was refilling the gas station. I didn't think about at the time until altered started acting up while accelerating and idling rough. Just a thought.Festiva/Mazda genetic splicing researcher B6T / G25MR for 5+ years and counting.

It's a consideration, but I doubt it in this case because I'm down to about three gallons. It woulda shown up soon after I last filled up, in my experience. Last time I came to Madness I got bad gas from two small stations in eastern Tennessee, once going east and once west. Plus the symptoms aren't the same.
