  • 91festy not running

    Hey,
About to buy a 91 fuel injected clean and straight for 500, its not running. My 88carby has complete different system. I dont have car so cant test until 2mro. When i looked at it, it had spark and fuel was flowing, he replaced coil and capakd rotor but not.spark plugs, they are way over due. He replaced fuel filter but not fuel line. Is there a sensor i should check, where would you experts start? My thought, new plugs, new fuel line, see if she starts. Any suggestions? Old man says when it died it didnt sumble, it just cut out, he restrted and drove it died again, tried a third time, then gave up.

Shoot some starting fluid into it somewhere and see if it fires, tests ignition system in a way.

It has spark and fuel but isn't running? I'd want to see the codes. There's been stories on here of a similar problem though... car runs for a few seconds then dies. Can't remember for the life of me what it was, and I just read it in a post recently. VAF sticking and cutting fuel maybe? I dunno, someone else will come in behind me with better memory though.

Yeah, its sparking strong so im think ignition will be good. He also did lots of work with spark and didnt disconnect the fuel pump, shes wet in there, super flooded. Ill air it out and shoot starter fluid in. Im going to own it at 230 and ill know by end of today. Ill post pictures. Of my new festy. 83Yr old owner kept her resl nice and wants a new car

Make sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up and if they are hooked up they aren't blocked. Something might not be getting a correct signal for something really simple.

Got fuel, spark, air. Only thing left is timing. Check timing belt hasn't slipped a tooth or two. Also check plugs for gap and general condition. It could also be some sort of sensor such as the VAF, but I'd eliminate plugs and timing belt first.

Try the simple stuff first. Pull the PCV hose off the intake and spray some carb cleaner into the intake. Try to start. If you have spark and air it will fire. then it seems you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't fire then it is either air or spark. If the filter is not clogged then it comes down to spark. That leaves plugs or cap, rotor, wires or distributor.

Also check for weak battery and check posts on battery for corrosion.
