  • Sending unit float keeps getting stuck or something

    I can't figure it out.

Ever since I put the new gas tank in, I have not had a fully functioning gas gauge.

Every time I fill the tank, it reads between a quarter tank, and half a tank, and will not budge until the actual fuel level falls below that. Now many would say, and I would have to agree, that at least the important side of the gauge is working, so at least I know when I am nearing empty. But it is very annoying.

Now when I pull the pump/sending unit, and put it back it, it will read properly until near empty and refilled, then it gets stuck again.
I can't see it getting stuck on anything in the tank, and the arms doesn't look bent, and move smoothly/freely. It ONLY been doing this since putting in the new tank.

I'm not sure this fits exactly with what's happening. Maybe the float has a leak around the lower part so that it fills partially with fuel, but only to a point because of trapped air in the upper part. The ballast keeps it from rising all the way up. Then when the tank is low, it drains out and cycles again. Or, if you put a slight pressure to each side of the arm as it travels up and down, there may be a point where it snags.
When I'm good I'm very, very good and when I'm bad I'm HORRID.
