  • Where do the shifter busings go?

I have pulled out the shifter rod between the shifter and the transmission. There is a noticeable gab in the linkage where a bushing ought to be. I can't figure out how to take this assembly apart to put the new busing on. How does this come apart?

Where do the other 3 bushings go? Nothing is jumping out at me....

This rubber boot (pic borrowed):IMG_1526.jpg is completely torn in half and demolished. I called the local auto parts stores and they can't find it. Thoughts? Is there a cheap way I can fix this?

Should I just get a new shift assembly from fourgreen and stop worrying about bushings and boots and old rubber?

The Kia part number for the boot is KKY0146090.
You will also need the ball seat KKY0146086 if they have any left.

I had a short shifter, but I didn't like it because the shaft was too short.
More effort is required to shift, even though the shifts are shorter. A heavy shift knob helps.

Didn't feel like cutting up the shift linkage so instead I chopped up the NAPA bushing I had on hand, then epoxied it in place. Cheap but effective lol

I have never even driven a Festy with a standard shifter with good bushings. lol

The bushings that were gone on mine, were the ones on the end of the shifter itself, so I just bought a Civic shortshifter on ebay since the bushings are built into those.
Followed the guide on how to install it, so I bought a nut, bolt, and a few washers, cut a coil off the spring so the larger pivot ball will fit, been driving on it almost a year now if it hasn't already been a year. I can't remember at all what it feels like to use the standard shifter anymore.
Only slight problem is the boot, too short for the old shifter boot. But find a Auto/Full console and get any shortshifter boot off ebay.

My setup, EGT Shift knob, Festy Auto Console, with the Civic shortshifter, with ebay suede shifter boot.

I guess is you have long legs, and short arms you would hate the shortshifter, but I think it is just fine, and doesn't make it look like an old truck where the shifter is like 10 feet long. lol

Automatic doesn't use bushings for the shifter to my knowledge, it uses a cable, so your cable is probably bad or just needs adjusting.

Torque, what color is the stitching on the shifter boot? Blue, gray or white?
