  • My tire fell off...

So I was just pulling out at a red light at an intersection, and i hear this awful grinding sound and boom, there goes the drivers front tire. Luckily I had all the tools in my car to repair it and it wasn't too busy of an intersection. My only problem is that my lug studs all went in but the one hole, and ive tried multiple studs and they all seem to not want to go into that specific hole. I don't know what this part is, and how to replace it. Is it the hub? I need this fixed asap because of a trip I have planned this weekend. Arty, I'm reaching out specifically to you if you see this in time, can you let me know if you have this part lying around and if so, how fast could we get this done my friend? I'm going to try to get this lug in, not by force, but just by giving it some love. Also, I'm not sure as to why this happened, I specifically remember tightening all lug bolts yesterday after replacing the brakes, who knows? I work security at walmart, maybe some crooks are out for revenge? Any input as to how this could happen is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Carefully chase the hole with a metric M12 X 1.5 taper tap.

Hub hole stripped? Maybe the bolts were too tight and ripped the threads out? Hub is screwed anyway, time for a new knuckle...or hub, easier to swap knuckles.

No, ever since I took it to Walmart and got new tires I make sure not to ever tighten them too much because of the PITA it is to loosen them. Maybe that was my problem, not tightening them enough? Brave, where could I get one of these tools, and is it safe enough to drive it with 3 lugs at the moment?

Industrial hardware store or maybe an automotive store.
Before you buy one, inspect the thread in the hub and the thread of the lug bolt.
If the lug bolt can thread easily into another hole, then the problem is with the internal thread on the hub.
Not very far and certainly not very fast.

Actually I've logged somewhere between 3-5k miles in my aspire with 3 nuts on the front right tire.(stud conversion) I noticed the nut fell off at 109k when I did the last oil change, haven't bothered to put one on it yet, 112k on the clock now. Is it smart? No. Is it safe? Probably not. Does it work? Obviously.

zoom, let me know the next time you go out for a drive. That's so I'll know exactly when to pull over and park.

well easiest would be replacing the entire hub with a good used one.
cheapest would be drilling the holes out and pressing in studs and be done with the lug bolts.

My mother drove around for 5 years+ in a Festy with one stripped-out lug bolt hole on the front. Replacing an entire Festy hub just so as to secure 1 bolt is not your average guy's idea of fun. 3 bolts may not be ideal but it's way safer than stripping one bolt on a Smart car (which only has 3 to start with), and helps explain why you used to routinely see 1 or 2 missing studs or nuts on 8 hole commercial vehicles.

Arty, tell David to put his location in his profile.
He may have gotten more response if we knew where he was.
