  • Possibly a slight electrical Issue

I don't know if anyone else experiences any of these slight problems. It has to do with the electrical draw on the alternator.

I work at Autozone, so I grabbed the electrical system tester and hooked it up to my Festy, as soon as it started the test the engine bogged majorly for about a second, before the readout on the test gave an all clear for the alternator. I have used this tester allot on many customer's cars, and not one vehicle has bogged down like that.

But what made me try the tester was I noticed allot when my cooling fan kicks on, all the lights on the car dim until the engine can catch back up, which takes about a second, also if the blower is on I can clearly hear it slightly slow down when I turn on the headlights, and slows down even more with the cooling fan.

Any insight on this issue? Possibly a bad ground? Sticking IAC Valve? Or just a normal Festiva quirk?

You'll also notice when the engine is idling and you turn the headlights on the engine speeds up to compensate for the power draw.

Not on mine, it never seems idle any higher with the headlights on.

I also get what sounds like a really quiet low-pitched squeal while idling, which is amplified (which still is very quiet) when I kick on anything that lower the RPMs.
But goes away with like a mere 100 rpm increase, and yes the needle sits at about 750 rpms on the tach while idling.
