  • Bad Brake luck

Well I was so happy coming home from the painter ,half way home , the car starts stopping by itself ,really dragging the car down ?
Everytime I slow for a light it gets worse , now I can smell brakes
How convenient ,car looks good now ,and I don't even need to put on the brakes to stop .
I got home ,left front wheel smokin like a brush fire
Took the caliper off , It did come off hard like pressure was still applied to it , slides are free ,piston collapes freely, I compress the piston ,clean and lube the slides ,and pins ,put it all back together and drove it a good ways ,NO problems ?
I just had my oil changed ,and he topped off all the fluids , I am wondering if it stirred something up in the M/C and it got down in the cylinder ?
Or was it just a fluke and the piston cocked in the caliper and would not release .

piston may have gotten cock-eyed in the bore

    might happen again

may want to look into getting a new/used caliper

      Packrat,

How many miles you got on them?
On both of mine, at 100K, I replaced both calibers and the hydraulic line.
Have only had one brake related failure, but that was due to exterior corrosion of the hardline.
Of course changing the brake fluid once a year probably helps.

      Reminds me!
