  • Just flushed radiator. Now won't start

I just got through flushing my radiator with cascade and drained it out and filled it up with fresh water to start the process again. Now it won't start at all turns over fine. With ether it picks up for a second then dies. I can't find my volt meter to save my life. I have a million things going on today and can't seem to get anything to go right. Any help is greatly appreciated. 90 festy with a 92 fi motor. 5 speed. Tia

i believe the wire that goes to the distributor got wet. it runs by the radiator cap and had a crack in the insulation. i hope it dries out and that fixes the problem before work at 5 in the morning. i have no other way to get to work right now.

I will. I wonder how long it should take before it dries out? Never experienced this

alright guys i figured it out. i have to say first off i completly over complicate everything and i hope somebody can take a lesson from my jackassery. My car was out of gas. it did not sputter at all before i shut it down and showed a quarter of a tank. Thats why i already had ruled that out. once again i appreciate your help and im sorry for wasting your time. Im so mad at myself i cant see straight. thanks guys and sorry once again.

We are all furious at this outrageous waste of our time. And none of us have ever run out of gas, ever. OK, almost never. Well, not very often anyway. At least not every week. Usually.

Ran fine this morning. Leaving work a minute ago I crossed some railroad tracks and it died. Now same symptoms as yesterday. I did check the gas this time. Haha. Also checked the inertia switch. Main relay is clicking. Stuck on the side if the road.

Is there power across the inertia switch? In other words, is there power at the fuel pump? If so, maybe bad fuel pump? Don't buy any lottery tickets for two months.

As soon as I get home I'll check. Been on the side of the road for over an hour waiting on my wife so I can go get the trailer.

Don't forget the VAF on the engine has to work in order to trigger the fuel pump relay to get power to flow to the inertia switch and then to the electric fuel pump.

My last Festiva would do this. I even thought it was out of gas too. Walked a mile to and back from a gas station in the winter in a t-shirt. What really weirds you out is when filling it up with gas seems to fix it. Then randomly doesn't.

                              Really weird, and annoying.

Think I remember I did figure it out. Does your VAF still have the wire lock on the pigtail?
