EGR on an Aspire

I've had a CEL on for quite awhile and on my recent trip to Pep Boys Arty hooked it up and said it was something with the EGR sensor. I dove into what I think is the EGR sensor today and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Can anyone help or give me an idea on what to do in this case? Here are some pics on what I took apart...

These are two sensors that were by it, the one on the right is plugged in, but the one on the left is just sitting there. Should it be plugged in?

the piece in your hand is the EGR pintle position sensor, a DVOM and some paper clips will tell you if it's working or not, then there's the pintle itself (big round thing) remove that unit and make sure the pintle moves freely and the hole to it isn't clogged shut.

Any instructions on how to remove the pintle?

should be just 2 bolts on the intake.

Ok, is there a gasket that would need replaced or no?

no, that should be a stamped steel gasket (re-useable)
