  • Passenger side wiper (arm) stopped working ......

While I was driving in the rain. It dropped down and looked like it was trying to work then just stopped.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

It looks like I can't even get to the problem.

I'm sure other Festys have had this problem.

    Thanks, Mike

Sounds like a linkage problem. I'm not familiar with exactly how the wipers are connected on festivas, but usually there is a bar underneath the cowl that connects the two arms together. Take a flashlight and look down in the vent by the bottom of the windshield and see if you can spot anything that appears to be loose by the inoperable wiper arm.

I did look at it while the wipers are on and everything seems to be moving up to the wiper arm but the wiper arm is not moving. Nothing seems to be out of place.

Usually, its just a loose nut on the wiper arm. Check that first. If you find the linkage is broken, then this is your lucky day. I pulled a wiper transmission out in Capac, MI. It has perfect threads on it. No corrosion at all. I removed it with all the right tools.

The teeth that interconnect the wiperarms to the spindle may be stripped. I know they are a bit stripped on mine, because last winter the ice held the wiper in place when I turned it on and the driver's side moved, but the passenger side didn't.

Check to see if the nut holding the wiper popped off, if it didn't tighten it down, and try the wipers again. If they still don't work, take the wiper arms off and use a bit of gorilla glue or something.

Cool, I will take the wiper arm off in the morning and look at it to see what I need.

bravekozak: If I need the wiper tranny I will pm you. Plus a list of the right tools!

If it is something in the transmission linkages under the vents you can take that whole system out by removing the large nuts on under the wiper arms and then taking the panel off the firewall where the motor is mounted. I had to replace mine because of a warn out joint.

Thanks, I see where I can get to it after you said that.

It looks like the linkage is broken. I can't see where it's broken but there is separate movement from the guts inside to the wiper arm above and the nut to hold the wiper arm is tight.

If the post is worn you might be able to fix it with a shim made from an aluminum pop or beer can. The aluminum is soft and could deform to match the post..

This is the pivot. There are two points where it could break. You said it went down? The part number for a new arm & pivot assembly is F1BZ-17566-A.
The price for a new one is $137.08.

Thanks Kozak, the part you sent me works great. I had to do some adjusting at the wiper motor and arm meet to get the wipers to set right, but it's all good now!

Friends, long story short: my wipers got messed up and are now out of alignment. When I turn on the wipers, the drivers side one goes off of the car. When I turn the wipers off, they no longer sit down flush with the windshield. How do I adjust these?
