  • 300K but now having shiftter linkage problems

Been awhile since I was last here, but my '93 finally made it to the 300,000 mile mark. It is having shifter linkage problems right now in 1st and 2nd gear. How is the best way to go about adjusting the linkage?

There is no adjusting the linkage, but if you replace the linkage bushings, it should shift better.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 90. Also nearing 300k. Where can you get the linkage bushings, what is the part number, and is it a difficult job to do?

Wow a member since 08 ? There is a little window half way up the screen on the right. Type the word shifter, linkage, bushing or a combination of these words. You'll be amazed what you find. It even highlights your selected words in each thread that it finds them in.

I just sold all of my remaining 12 bushings today sorry. All shifter rebuild parts gone as of today, including ball seals and shifter stabilizer bushings. I sent an extra shifter stabilizer bushing to shadetree. I was too lazy to open the bag. Ask him if he would sell you one when he gets it.

tuna, I didn't install the plastic bushings in my shift linkage. I paid big bucks for Corksport bronzoil bushings. You will not be disappointed. All of my shifts are sharp and precise now. Make sure you use metric nyloc nuts.

My local Kia dealer stocks them. They are $1.82 each. Ask for a 97 sephia shifter linkage bushings.

I got rid of my plastic bushings and used 1/2" copper. Nice and tight now.

Brave. What would it cost for you to ship me a couple of those rubber dust caps that sit under the shifter?

So just plain 1/2" copper pipe? That's cool if it's that simple. I used the advancedynamix method, but that would be even easier if it's a simple matter of replacing the old bushing with a piece of pipe.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

                      The Kia part # is KKY01 46062.

The Mazda ones are the same as our original. The Kia ones are a stiffer plastic. They work great

                          Yep. Its that easy.
Try to use heavier gauge tube though (18 gauge I think), because the light gauge stuff still has a little bit of play around the bolt.
