  • Get everything right, then something else happens....

I'm about to lose my mind. I've been waiting to get new tires bc I haven't had the money. I finally had 4 sitting in the garage and had to wait to put them on bc I needed front lower control arms too. Got the control arms and tires on and WOW the car rides like a Cadillac, ha. Here's what I've done (88 LX Carb):

    4 new tires (Nankang CX668)
    New Moog lower control arms
    Alignment
New CV axles on both sides
    New steering rack
Basically everything in the front end has been replaced EXCEPT the sway bar bushings where it attaches to the core support (or that area).

My problem: The car rides as smooth as a new car. But, as soon as I hit the brakes (speed doesn't really make a difference, but it is worse at higher speeds I'd say), THE WHOLE CAR and steering wheel shakes like crazy. The brakes aren't worn or old by any means. I did use my old sway bar to control arm bushings bc they weren't old. Should I try new sway bar to control arm bushings or the sway bar bushings that attach at the core support? Could that be my problem? It just sucks that it rides so well and that all goes down the drain as soon as I hit the brakes...

My limited experience thinks warped rotors..

VVV I warped a new set of rotors on the auto in under two weeks.. had one seriously close incident, slammed on the pedal from 75.

That's what I would think if they weren't fairly new. But I guess parts these days don't last as long as they used to.

I'm with Spike on this. My first thought was the rotors are warped.

Jack the front up, have a friend put slight pressure on brake peddle just so you can barely spin the wheel and check for tight spots . Cheap way to check rotor warp
New build on the way .

And dont buy the cheap Chinese crap from the chain stores if they are warped. You do get what you pay for.

Yea, I put good stuff on it the last time. I guess I'll have to try the jacking up the front trick.
