When you turn the key the fuel pump runs instead of the starter, same when you jump thee terminals on the solenoid. Also when the key is on the injectors run, what in the name of ¥£€¥ is going on?

Just put the motor in, ive checked the grounds, though it is possible I've missed something, I compared all the wiring to a running car89 LX (461xxx miles original motor and trans, retired)

Man, that sounds implausible from my understanding of the wiring. The one thing that connects them both I can think of is the ignition switch.
I thought computer, but it doesn't switch the fuel pump, the VAF does.-Zack

How do you know when you turn the key if the injectors are working? They won't do anything unless the engine is turning, because the have no signal.
Im trying to figure this out.
Was anything else done, besides swapping the engine?-Greg

there is a hum from the throttle body, maybe its not related? I've never noticed it on any other one anyway, I just assumed it was injectors but probably isnt. Nothing else was dont to speak of, all the parts came the original motor itself, only the basic long block of the motor was used from the donor car, no intake, distributor ect. Shadetree has been working with me on it over the phone but I can put power to the starter any which way, even a direct jumper wire from the battery and all that happens is the fuel pump runs for as long as I supply power.89 LX (461xxx miles original motor and trans, retired)

Hum is probably the fuel flowing through the rail and back to the tank. The injectors would be a pulsing sound.
This is weird.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Pull the main fusible links (replace w/ long leg cartridge fuses later). Then try to jump the starter with a screwdriver or fancy alligator clip remote start button. Maybe the starter solenoid wire is back feeding the system somehow.-Zack

I did try swaping them all out with jumper wires with no luck, I immediately assumed it was in that block as well, unless its the block itself, the fuse links are not. I am going to put a differnt starter in it tonight, even if its not in the starter that is an easy way to eliminate that as an issue, just to narrow it down a little bit, if it does happen to be the starter that is the strangest starter failure I have ever encountered89 LX (461xxx miles original motor and trans, retired)

Is it possible you reversed polarity at the battery? Some people like to read fiction,I prefer to read repair manuals. Weird I know-

Was the starter! Although now the thing won't accept fuel:banghead: will run on carb cleaner AND has fuel at the rail but won't run off of itLast edited by mystro; 11-20-2013, 08:55 PM.89 LX (461xxx miles original motor and trans, retired)
