I have a 93 Festiva with 48K miles. I have had a problem for over a year and have posted on this site and got lots of suggestions. The last one told me to take the car to a certified technician at a Ford Dealership. I did this and I am back because he asked me to post what has been done by other mechanics and get suggestions from the Fordfestiva.com community on repairing the car.
Problem. The check engine light comes on when driving and the car stalls slightly and when you give it power the light goes off. After driving the car and shutting off the ignition, the car will sometimes not start. It turns over and seems to be flooded and you keep turning it over 10 to 20 times with out success. Then, it starts just like it had never had a problem. It seems not to be flooded and runs fine. However, this not starting has happen too many times and causes me to say some special words.
I have taken this to three mechanics and they have completed the following work. These are my words taken from their repair receipts.
1. Fuel Pressure Test and Replacement of Fuel Pressure Regulator. Checked and cleaned Fuel Pump. No Change
2. Replace Spark Plugs and Spark Plug Wires. Replace Disturbutor Cap and Distributor Rotator. No Change
3. Replaced Oxygen Sensor and Air Flow Sensor, Replace VAF (not sure if this is the same as the other two), Replace Air Filter. No Change
4. Technician used Star Tester, No Communication, Checked each injector for ongoing damage and to make sure firing properly. Checked Fuel Pressure Regulator and found it is still getting too much fuel at times. We have computer program coming to test Fuel Trim and PCM Operation.
I sure would appreciate the ideas anyone would have on the forum. I will share your comments directly with the technician at the dealership. Many thanks for your suggestions and comments.
