  • Alternator Low Output

Is it worth trying to fix an alternator with low voltage output, or just buy a new one?

Replaced the battery a couple of weeks ago, and it died again on me yesterday. Stopped in and had it tested and its not charging right. Found them on Rockauto for less than $100. Just trying to see it there is anything worth replacing or if it just makes more sense to go after the alternator.

    Thanks

Uesd to be places who would rebuild alternators. Try "auto electrical" in the Yellow Pages.
If you still get Yellow Pages telephone directory.

        Your reglator is gone!
Don't know if those are plug and play replaceable or not, newer Alternators have the regulators integrated and are not friendly to repair/replacement.
You may also put up a [WTB] for known good Festy ALT of the correct year/model.
Could be more economical, but a new one would come with a warranty.

I replaced an internal regulator in one of my cars (carbed) a few years ago, It wasn't a drop in, needed soldering but it was only $40 vs new alt cost. Of course, the bearings etc. were still good.
