  • Driving and Engine shutting off

Here's my question. While I'm driving, I like to put it in neutral while coming to stops ahead, red lights etc. Engine light comes on and car turns off. I've noticed that this happens when the headlights are on. Battery is new, so I'm presumming that the alt. is about done. This is on a 5sp '91 gl Festiva. Any ideas? Thanks!

Mine ended up being junk motor (no Joke). EXACT same symptoms reset "Base Timing" & "Idle Speed",still would die at stops with head lights on. Pulled tube at VAF and oil started pouring out. drool Hope its not your problem, but it sounds exactly the same.

Autos are funny like that. I had one doing this to me and pulled the head and it was a broken valve. Mine was abused but got a new motor and is still on the road. Obviously a compression check wouldn't hurt. Sometimes it could be too low of idle. Or vacuum leak.
