Removing/disabling Aspire ABS?

Having some hub issues & apparently my Aspire is one of the minority w/ the optional ABS. Been looking for replacement hubs so I can do a quick-swap, but I'm not sure how well it'll go. Even watching ebay & all the listed Aspire/Kia RIO hubs advertised have been non-ABS models.

How big a deal is it to do w/o the ABS? Can I simply swap to "normal" hubs & ziptie the sensor somewhere out of the way? Obviously I'll have the ABS sensor light on, but will it interfere w/ normal non-abs braking?

it will NOT affect your normal braking, and you shouldn't even need to move the sensor. please keep to the original thread you started, answers and consolidation for repairs like these is prefered.

Ok, cleared out the somewhat confrontational comment I was going to make & starting again.


The ABS Sensor bolts to the back of the front hub assembly with 2 bolts. It's right under where the tie-rod bolts to the hub. I was told by htchbck that the non-abs hubs have the boss for the sensor, but they are not drilled/tapped for it. So I will need to move/secure the sensor out of the way so it won't get wound up in the CV if it's just hanging randomly.

Finally.... I posted a WTB ad for the correct part in the FS/WTB subforum. I posted a general ABS question in the repair forum in-case I cannot source the correct part. I'm not going to post general ABS questions in the FS/WTB forum because that is an inappropriate area for such a discussion.

^ my bad, wasn't paying attention to the subforum in which the thread was posted. i kinda get trigger happy about that kinda stuff as it happens way too often with some of the more impatient noobs on the forum (5 new threads on the EXACT same subject within 24 hrs). please take no offense

at any rate, the sensor does NOT need to be touched as it's bolted to the knuckle and does NOT contact the CV in any way. in fact, there's no need to remove the sensor at all durring the CV replacement procedure. just don't touch it. I do this stuff for a living

the WHOLE point is I need to replace my hubs(or knuckle if you prefer)...I don't need to touch the CV shafts & never asked about them.

wow, i must be tired, ok disreguard my previous posts.

as for the knuckles, find yourself a 99-01 Kia Rio, as they are direct swaps.

Also, to clarify, you're having a problem with the knuckle (race carrier) or the hub (bearing carrier)? if it's the hub only, they are replaceable without removing the knuckle. just need a slide hammer to do the job.
