  • No Power

At the end of the last race the car completely died. There is no power going trough the car whatsoever, the instrument panel shows nothing. We went through every fuse. There is power going in because we have a few hardwired components that work fine. My guess is either the fusible links which I have cleaned, or the main relay. Seems like it will be hard to get ahold of so I'm in for any suggestions.

Have you looked at the grounds? Espically where the battery negative is connected to the motor and the body. Are the working components wired straight to the battery or thru the fuse panel?

We have a rear mounted battery, and no the hardwired components are just straight wired off the battery. The engine grounds are all pretty firm. If it were the alternator the car would still have power, it would just run poorly and draw off the battery. The car is straight dead, when you put the key in the ignition and turn it there is absolutely no life. It was running fine and then it just cut out. I'm not sure how much of this the main relay handles but if anyone has ever changed it let me know.

I'd check the cables from the battery to the front of the car. Where did you hook them in the engine compartment?

To the main positive lead that would normally go to the battery. We know the lead is hot because we have some lights wired off it and they work fine.

The negative side of the battery goes to body and engine ground. Make sure the ground straps between the engine and the body are clean and tight. The positive goes to both the starter motor and through the MAIN fuse link to the ignition switch. Just take a test light and check if you have power to the big white wire on the ignition switch.

The main relay is through the EGI fuse link to the injectors. The main relay still needs power through the ignition switch to energize the solenoid. Check your ignition switch first.
