Weird Burnt Smell very Faint

Okay so my Festiva after I've been driving it for a while usually consistently as I deliver Pizzas in it has this really faint burnt smell to it, but its not the oil as there is no change in the amount of oil. Could it be the fan belt is in dire need of replacement so it may be that? Or the only other one I can think of is the studded tires creating friction against the ground and heating up the rubber, which is the more unrealistic one. It also could be gas fumes as I jerry rigged the two fuel lines together as the fuel filter was so plugged the car wouldn't start (literally the only thing I know about cars). It honestly could be nothing serious as it being a old car I'm not expecting flawlessness just effectiveness which this car has been 100% what I was looking for.

Does the fan/alt belt squeal when it starts or is running? Are you running the studded tires on pavement without snow/ice? I'm not familiar with studded tires as we can't use those here in the south! Are you braking a lot and possibly getting the brakes hot? I know this is a lot of questions but I'm asking to help determine the cause of your issue.

Ya the fan belt squeels like a bat up till around 40 km/hr, and yes the studded tires are also on bare pavement as we got snow a while ago but its basically all gone now and just haven't bothered to switch to the normal tires, the braking is actually very limited as a lot of the time I'm driving on major rural roads with very little traffic lights and stop signs.

Ya when I bought the car it came with a new fan belt so I'm assuming the guy planned on replacing it but never got around to it. I figured it was nothing major as there is not leaking or anything and its more of a rubbery smell than anything else

A slipping belt can give a rubbery smell when slipping. It depends on how much it slips but I still would tighten it first.

Also.. it sounds like you just stuck the two lines for the filter together. Please get a filter on there! If the filter's clogged, it was doing its job. Who knows what's running through your fuel system now.

Anyway if this car sat for a while, and the smell is very faint and only happens after it is good and warm, I would say you have oil seepage and dust that is burning off of the exhaust. That seems the most likely to me.
Studded snow tires wont smell burnt. I used to drive them on dry pavement at 80mph and also city use, they dont heat up any more than regular tires.

It can also be blow by,had the same thing in my sons car.You dont notice the odor as much untill your windows are rolled up and the heater fan is blasting. But the smell is nasty,and it gets worse. Pull your intake tube off the throttle body, (takes 2 seconds) does it have a lot of oil in it? This might not be your problem just sharing.

Hey db2u, how noisey are the studded tires at highway speeds on dry pavement. I've really been wanting to get some studded this year.But I dont want insanely loud,no what I mean...

The reason I said to tighten the belt was, he said it was squealing. Tightening the belt would eliminate that as a trouble point. It could slip and produce a smell at speed even if it's not squealing.

In my Subaru Impreza they were not loud. I really only noticed extra noise AT ALL when the window was down in a parking lot, then it sounded like driving on gravel sort of... Impreza has a little more insulation than a Festiva but not much. My tires were Hankook, but I doubt the brand makes that much difference in studded vs non studded winter tires. I say go for it, they help immensely on ice.

Fan belt...lol
