  • ** Need an engine ('88 carby or similar) Cheap or Free ASAP **

    Merry Christmas guys & gals,

Well I don't know what just happened, but my '88 ate its camshaft gear at least... It stopped running about a mile from the house, and after I pushed it home I found the timing belt off and the cam gear way out of center (wobble).

I think I'm going to need to install an engine, and I'm going to need it soon. I have a new part-time job on Fri, Sat and Sun which I really need to get to, it's too far for me to ride my bike.

If anyone has a used engine (1.3L carby or compatible) that I can come get, I would really appreciate it. I have the Weber 32/36 DGEV carb and Rocketman carb adapter on it now.

It doesn't have to be anything special, just a running block that I can put in and get to work.

BTW, I have an engine hoist that I can bring to help get an engine out of a car if need be, and I don't mind doing the work to remove it.

    Thanks a bunch,

    -Scott in Wendell, NC

those gears are known to konk out on their own... i'd throw another cam gear on before swapping an engine... likely it's just work hardened itself to the point of failure and needs replaced.

if you can't procure a spare cam gear fast enough, there's the option ($$) of getting adjustable cam gears from a Miata.

Can someone give me a list of the cars that I need to check for the same cam gear as my '88 B3?

The Mazda and Kia models/years, etc?

all B series engines will have an acceptable cam gear: 85-93 323, all 4 cylinder MX-3, all miatas through 04 i think, 91-96 escort GT, protege through 95. aspires, festivas....

basicaly, if it has a B series, you can use the cam gear.

That's a rather simple fix. sounds like valve stem seals.
